The demand for real-world corrosion under insulation (CUI) testing has risen sharply in the industrial industry in the last several years. In response to this need, end users, third-party research labs, and manufacturers have collaborated to help develop new, long-term corrosion test protocols.
The new testing explored how complete systems (pipe, insulation, & jacketing) performed in conditions designed to accelerate corrosion over the course of 6 months. The first tests were completed in 2016 with a silica aerogel blanket sample and a microporous blanket as the initial test materials.
The testing has continued, and new results from the latest long-term corrosion tests on calcium silicate and expanded perlite are in. Johns Manville’s CUI experts Ames Kulprathipanja, Ph.D., Juan Carlos Madeni, Ph.D., and Marybeth Jones will be discussing the results of this test and more in our upcoming webinar CUI Test Results: Understanding the Corrosive Mechanism on September 12th at 2:00 PM ET.
